First intl. virtual conference to discuss COVID-19 in Asia today

The first international virtual conference on COVID-19 Pandemic in Asian countries from public health perspective will be held today at 9.00 am. 

The event titled “Breaking the transmission chain through community empowerment” is organised by the Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) together with the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA). Registration link is https://slma.lk/APACPHwebinar

This webinar hopes to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, share best practices and to assist healthcare professionals in conveying their thoughts in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic issues. 

Organisers said higher institutions have an invaluable resource to help combat this global issue and highlight the roles that Schools of Public Health can play in contributing to respective national responses. 

APACPH and SLMA has been successful in bringing a panel of experts from higher institutions around Asia, to discuss the situational analyses on COVID-19 in their own respective country, their national response.

Panellists are: Prof. Colin Binns, School of Public Health, Curtin University Australia; Prof. Gordon G. Liu, Peking University, Beijing; Prof. Malik Peiris, Hong Kong University School of Public Health; Prof. Awg Bulgiba, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaysia; Prof. T. Yik Ying, Dean, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore; Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services; Sri Lankan Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi; Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Chief Consultant Physician, National Infectious Disease Hospital Sri Lanka; and Army Commander and Head of National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva.
