Deputy Minister of Ports assumes duties

Ports and Shipping Minister Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed Maharoof assumed duties yesterday. Ports and Shipping and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka, Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping and Southern Development Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake and several representatives joined the event held at the Ministry

The newly appointed Deputy Minister of Ports and Shipping, Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed Maharoof, yesterday assumed duties and pledged to improve Sri Lanka’s ports to global standard.

The event was held with the participation of Minister of Ports and Shipping and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka at the Ministry. 

While welcoming the Deputy Minister, Minister Ratnayaka said, “Deputy Minister Abdullah Mohamed Maharoof assumed duties at the Ministry. 

He and I joined Parliament as Members of Parliament in 2000. 

I am happy we are going to work in the same ministry. I’m confident that I will always have his support to elevate the development of the ports.” 

Addressing the gathering the Deputy Minister said, “I’m proud of my constituency, Trincomalee District, where one of the most important natural ports in the world is located. I will ensure the development of the Port of Trincomalee. I will do my best to improve this port to global standards.” 

Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen, Parliamentarian Imran Maharoof, Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping and Southern Development Dr Parakrama Dissanayake, Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Captain Athula Hewawitharana, Additional Managing Director of Sri Lanka Ports Authority D. Upali De Zoysa, Director Operations of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Jayantha Perera, and several executive officers and employees of SLPA as well as representatives from the Eastern Province were present at the event.
