China amends travel advisory to primary level

China, the second largest source of tourists to Sri Lanka, has revised its travel advisory to primary level. 

According to the current security situation in Sri Lanka, the Embassy of China as well as the Consular Affairs Department of the Foreign Ministry of China once again amends its travel advisory on Sri Lanka down to the primary level of “take safety precautions” with effect from 31 May until 21 June, the Embassy said in a short statement. 

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has cautioned travellers to Sri Lanka to postpone their holiday plans ahead of Eid holidays. On Monday the UAE Foreign Ministry took to Twitter to post a series of travel alerts to Emirati holiday goers who may be eyeing Sri Lanka as a holiday destination in the coming days.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation urges Emiratis to postpone their current travel plans to Sri Lanka due to the security situation.”

Last Friday Italy became the latest country to relax its travel advisory on Sri Lanka, raising hopes of a faster recovery for the local tourism industry. Earlier China, India, Germany and Switzerland were among the countries that softened or relaxed their travel advisories imposed after the Easter Sunday attacks.
