AG turns down post-retirement diplomatic post in Canada

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera had turned down an offer to head Sri Lanka’s High Commission in Ottawa – Canada.

De Livera has informed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that he wishes to remain in the country and serve the public.

Coordinating Officer to the AG State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne confirmed that de Livera was offered the post of High Commissioner in Canada but declined it.

De Livera was appointed AG in April 2019 and is to retire on 24 May.

Retired Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sumangala Dias was previously nominated to head the Mission in Ottawa, but Canada delayed giving agreement to his appointment following which he was named to head the Sri Lanka Embassy in Rome.
