Sampath Bank gets first ever female deputy chairman

Saumya Amarasekera has become the first female to be appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of Sampath Bank Plc.

The appointment is effective 15 May.

She was originally appointed to Sampath Bank Plc Board in June 2012 as a Non Independent Non-Executive Director. She sits on the Bank’s Board Nomination Committee, Board Human Resource and Remuneration Committee, Board Integrated Risk Management Committee and Board Marketing Committee.

Amarasekera counts over 29 years in active legal practice in Civil Law, practicing in the Original, Appellate and Supreme Courts as an Attorney-at-Law. She holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Pennsylvania with particular emphasis on Insurance Law, Privacy and Defamation Law. She has experience in areas relating to Property, Testamentary, Condominium Disputes, Trusts, Family Law, and Money Recovery. She also litigates on behalf of financial services sector clients and has specialised in local and international arbitrations.

With the latest change the Board of Sampath Bank Plc comprises of Malik Ranasinghe (Chairman), Nanda Fernando (Managing Director), Saumya Amarasekera (Deputy Chairperson), Sanjiva Senanayake (Senior Director /Non-Executive Director, Deepal Sooriyaarachchi (Non-Executive Director), Dhara Wijayatilake (Non-Executive Director), Annika Senanayake (Non-Executive Director), Ranil Pathirana (Non-Executive Director), Rushanka Silva (Non-Executive Director) and Dilip de S. Wijeyeratne (Non-Executive Director).
