“NSB is the safest bank for your money”: Chairperson Keasila Jayawardena

  • Holds sixth consecutive draw of NSB UTrust ‘Cash from there, Gifts from here’ program

 

The sixth consecutive draw of NSB UTrust ‘Cash from there, Gifts from here’ Program, organised annually by National Savings Bank (NSB) targeting its overseas customers, was ceremoniously held recently at the Head Office of the Bank.

Addressing the gathering, NSB Chairperson Keasila Jayawardena, who has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, has observed that most of the Sri Lankan customers, when dealing with financial institutions, are concerned mostly about the returns and pay less or no attention to the safety of their hard-earned money. Under such circumstances, NSB is always committed to ensure returns as well as the safety equally for the customers. 

Therefore, most of the migrant workers who contribute to the development of the country with an annual foreign exchange of Rs. 7 billion approximately and many of the Si Lankan people residing in the country have joined hands with NSB with a higher assurance of safety and security. The Chairperson also said that the Bank actively contributes towards the development of the country by annually granting 60% of the total deposits received by the Bank to the Government. 

Jayawardena, further noted that when talking about the contribution towards the development process of the country, Sri Lankan women, who represent 53% of the population, make a distinctive involvement in this regard and therefore, they could be identified as the spirit of the nation. It has been proposed to offer an array of attractive benefits for the women through ‘Sthree’ Savings Account introduced by NSB exclusively for the women and it would help them to be independent freed from the dependent mentality. 

The Chairperson reminded that similarly, the Bank’s ‘Ge Dora’ Housing Loan Facility and ‘Buddhi’ Higher Education Loan Facility are quick and easy loan schemes available for anybody to materialise their dreams of a house and higher education respectively. In addition, the Bank has taken measures to provide a more efficient and friendly service with a new impetus through the island wide postal network, she stated. 

Damitha Rathnayake, the Actg. General Manager/CEO of the Bank, addressing the gathering, has reflected that Sri Lankans who are employed abroad make a tremendous contribution towards the economy and deposit mobilisation in Sri Lanka and the Bank, during this post-COVID period, has already implemented a comprehensive program for their betterment, under the guidance of the Government. She further stated that the Bank ensures to deliver an exclusive service for all those who join hands with the Bank for saving. 

This draw was held to select 150 customers to offer valuable gifts among the customers who have got admitted to the same by remitting money from abroad via the Bank’s remittance service, NSB UTrust. 

Director Jayantha Perera, Senior Deputy General Managers K. Raveendran and Kithsiri Wijerathne, Deputy General Managers Jeewani Goonesekera, Devika Silva, Gamini Jayaweera, Senior Superintendent of Police Jayantha Athulathmudali, other guests and the family members of the overseas customers were present at the occasion.
