NDB’s Ithuru Karana Maga helps master the skill of saving

Saving means preventing waste of a particular resource. Resources such as time, money, water, food and fuel all contribute towards the wellbeing of an individual, as well as the world we live in. Although preventing the waste of these resources should be a priority world-wide, it is rarely done. 

Identifying the need to implement savings on a national level, NDB recently re-introduced Ithuru Karana Maga – an initiative that stresses the importance of saving not just money, but other resources as well. 

Ithuru Karana Maga, which was initially launched in 2011 as a National Level savings initiative to inculcate the savings habit amongst people, has been reborn with a brand new face – learn the skill of saving and excel in life. It teaches the skill of savings as a philosophical journey, which can be learned with time, practice, and persistence. The act of saving is not strictly financial, because it means the preventing the excessive consumption of and managing the waste of any resources, including water, food, time, fuel, and electricity.  

Furthermore, Ithuru Karana Maga also stresses the fact that financial stability within the creation of good savings habits is crucial to the emotional wellbeing of a person or family. Through NDB’s various savings accounts, Ithuru Karana Maga will assist a customer to master the subject of savings. With financial stability created through a healthy savings habit, Sri Lanka can also help save the environment by 

saving its resources.
