Strategic planning workshop in session

Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) Sri Lanka is the women’s forum of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Sri Lanka (CILT SL). WiLAT is present in 25 countries with over 1,600 members. WiLAT held a strategic planning workshop on 4 May at Frieghtlinks Board room after their sixth Annual General Meeting, to draw their plan for 2019/2020.

Dr. Ajantha Perera addressing the gathering

The workshop started with a knowledge sharing session by renowned environmentalist Dr. Ajantha Perera, to commemorate World Environment Day, which, was on 5 June, and World Ocean Day on 8 June.

Dr. Perera shared her experience as an environmentalist and delivered an inspiring speech which made the audience rethink about the valuable natural resources which are being consumed each day but often been forgotten by humans due to their unsustainable consumption. It was stressed in her speech, the fact that humans should take the responsibility of their actions and work to reduce environmental pollution as a matter of urgency. Her presentation was mainly focused on the theme air pollution, in line with the theme of World Environment Day 2019 – ‘Beat the Air Pollution’.

It was highlighted that sustainability must be the underlying theme of all the operations carried out in the logistics and transport industry as well as the basis for any strategy CILT or WiLAT should adhere to.

After a brief networking session between Dr. Perera and the executive committee members, further proceedings of the workshop started.

WiLAT Chairperson Gayathri Karunananayke CMILT led the strategic planning workshop. After conducting a SWOT analysis for the past year, committee members were assigned to the three pillars, Membership Development, Membership Services, and Branding and Sponsorship, to develop the strategic plan for 2019/2020. The team developed strategies separately after the brainstorming session and this will be implemented during the council tenure.

The workshop was a great success with 24 Exco members taking part in the workshop. The finalised strategy and action plans will be tracked at the monthly Exco meeting. The Chairperson thanked the Exco for their active participation.
