NDB staff ‘Gift’s a Tree to Mother Lanka’ on Independence Day

Trees are essential for life: giving oxygen, removing and storing carbon from the atmosphere, enhancing air quality and a multitude of other benefits. Research estimates that tree planting ‘has mind-blowing potential’ to tackle climate crisis. As trees grow, they absorb and store the carbon dioxide emissions that are driving global heating.

Demonstrating the bank’s commitment to environmental stewardship beyond the bank’s operational scope, the bank distributed 250 mango plants to staff members under the theme “Gift a Tree to Mother Lanka this Independence”. The key message was to “Plant a Tree, this Independence Day and help Mother Lanka with a Breath of Fresh Air”. 

The project was initiated by the Marketing and Corporate Sustainability Teams of NDB, to inculcate the habit of planting trees and encourage NDBers to make Sri Lanka ‘Green’. The staff who received the trees will be reporting the progress of growth every six months.
