LAUGFS Eco Sri contributes to water purification efforts in North Central Province

LAUGFS Eco Sri, a pioneer in vehicle emission testing in Sri Lanka, once again demonstrated its commitment to giving back to the community by contributing to the water purification efforts of select schools. 

The LAUGFS Eco Sri team started the new year by continuing its philanthropic efforts, providing a water purification system for the benefit of students of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya, Kebithigollewa, in the North Central Province. 

With an investment of over Rs. 1 million, this project also provided 235 deserving students of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya, with essential stationery and schoolbags for the new school year, in addition to the water purification system.

“LAUGFS Eco Sri is committed to giving back to society through our various community development initiatives. The Chronic Kidney Disease is a prevalent issue in these areas due to the consumption of unpurified water, which contains high levels of contaminants. Therefore, we wanted to provide this water purification solution to the students of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya, in the hope that it will help to improve their health, reduce the risk of falling ill and contribute to their overall wellbeing. Our hope is that this initiative will provide teachers and parents with the peace of mind knowing that the children are able to consume purified and safe drinking water at school,” said LAUGFS Eco Sri Operations Deputy General Manager Saliya Dissanayake.

Each year, LAUGFS Eco Sri conducts a number of community development programs based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This project, which is directly linked to sustainable development goal number six of providing clean water and sanitation for all, is paid for by the fundraising efforts of the company, as well as through the sale of items at the island-wide network of vehicle emission testing centres. This unique model allows Eco Sri customers from across the island to become stakeholders of these worthy initiatives. 

The donation recently concluded with the participation of Dissanayake and other senior members of the LAUGFS Eco Sri team. The event was enriched by several beautiful performances highlighting the talents of the children of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya.
