Protecting Sri Lanka’s biodiversity hinges on an educated society. Dilmah Conservation’s focus towards education and awareness, has resulted in 15 extensively researched publications – broadly classified into field guides on Sri Lanka’s flora and fauna, and books on culture and heritage, Ayurveda, and organic home gardening.

Each, authored by leading experts in their own field, contains valuable information and high-quality images to enlighten the reader. In keeping with Dilmah’s philosophy of ‘making business a matter of human service’ the publications are available at print cost.

The books and field guides showcase some of Sri Lanka’s precious flora, fauna, and heritage. Wildlife enthusiasts will discover a treasure trove of information among the field guides on butterflies, bats, snakes, spiders, dragonflies, and Udawalawe National Park. Publications highlighting forest trees in Sri Lanka, lesser-known lichens, home-gardening, and indigenous medicinal practices will interest nature lovers.

Two publications, one on the indigenous Veddah community and the other on the traditional Ahikuntaka community are a valuable offering as they offer the reader more than a glimpse into their elusive lives, history, and stories.

The publications are further particularly devoted to shedding light on misconceived or lesser-known flora and fauna. This is an attempt to change the way people perceive non-charismatic creatures who may not be the face of conservation but are equally or more important to the role of maintaining biodiversity.

The amount of research and effort that has gone into producing Dilmah Conservation books and field guides is evident upon perusing the collection.

For instance, the book ‘Recognising Deadly Venomous Snakes from Harmless Snakes of Sri Lanka’ offers comprehensive information organised in an easy-to-digest format supplemented by high-quality pictures.  Therefore, it is commendable that the books are available at print cost. This will open the publications to a wider audience in the hopes of creating a new generation of wildlife and nature enthusiasts and conservationists.

Dilmah Conservation has organised many initiatives to educate and spread awareness about environmental issues among different stakeholders including youth, staff, and community. Among its most recent initiatives is the series of interactive ‘Sustainable Lifestyle’ workshops – a part of the Climate Reality Initiative – which has now been successfully adapted to a webinar series in the wake of COVID.

DC publications can be purchased at Vijitha Yapa Bookshop, Sarasavi Bookshop, Dilmah t Lounges and online at the Dilmah Conservation website.
