Staying true to its core value of being  truly sustainable , DFCC Bank has geared up to provide home gardening kits to customers in lieu of World Environment Day with the objective of  promoting the home gardening concept amongst the citizens of this  country.

Commencing from the month of June, customers who open a new fixed deposit with a minimum deposit of Rs. 10,000 for a six month or one year tenure will receive a home gardening kit free of charge on a first-come first-served basis across all branches. The home gardening kits contains packs of seeds, pots, and fertiliser packaged in a DFCC branded eco-friendly reusable bag that is environmentally friendly.

This comes as a virtuous initiative during this COVID-19 pandemic where many Sri Lankans are forced to look at growing their own produce in their home gardens, leading to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

In order to promote the home gardening concept to the employees of the bank, the Marketing and Sustainability Division provided home gardening kits to staff at a concessionary rate. Through this initiative the bank’s objective is to support the home gardening concept across the country.

Commenting on the initiative, DFCC Bank CEO Lakshman Silva said: “In a time of a global crisis, it is important that we find sustainable alternatives to support our communities and occupy our time with rewarding tasks. Not only does home gardening help families to spend time on productive endeavors, it also ensures that we collectively work towards protecting the environment. Caring for the environment and taking steps towards sustainability should be a priority, even during this pandemic and I hope the home gardening kits distributed by DFCC Bank will aid in progressing towards a greener Sri Lanka.”

In recent times, the bank’s sustainability initiatives have focused on entrepreneur development (especially in Small and Medium Enterprises), education, environment and emergency relief.

DFCC Bank as an ongoing practice engages the staff, communities and other stakeholders to build a better environment for the future generation through initiatives such as beach clean-ups, tree planting programs to commemorate staff birthdays, plastic recycling and e-waste disposal in addition to its latest initiative of promoting the home gardening concept.
