Just like two sides of the same coin, grace cannot exist without glory and glory cannot exist without grace. It is this multi-dimensional theme of duality that will be showcased in the dance production ‘Grace & Glory’ on 17 and 18 August at the Bishop’s College Auditorium. Presented by the legendary Naomi Rajaratnam of ‘With My Feet’ who is known for her riveting and spirited productions since the year 2000, the show will be the seventh of its kind.

Grace & Glory will showcase a diverse range of dance styles; from Oriental Fusion, to Jazz, Hip-hop, Rock and Roll, Ballet, Ballroom and Latin American. The production features 22 uniquely choreographed items with some of its performers being international award-winning and championship dancers.

The show’s uniqueness lies in its theme of duality and mirroring, which is embodied in every aspect of the production; from its media campaign and choreography to music and costumes. Grace & Glory encompasses a number of items that will feature one specific genre of music with two styles of dance, choreographed and danced according to one beat and tune. For example, Kathak music will feature two styles of dance such as Modern and Kandyan on stage simultaneously.

Grace & Glory demonstrates the endless possibilities and celebration of diverse styles, harmoniously dancing to the beat of the same musical composition; something that is much needed given the country’s present situation. Incidentally, dance as a medium requires all members of the human body to move in perfect unison to create a beautiful and lasting visual impact on its audience, just as peace in this land cannot be achieved without complete synchronicity of all of its citizens.

For centuries, dance has been considered a restorative, therapeutic and transformative force. The distinctive frequency and emotion it carries has and continues to have the power to create an impact solely through the movement of the human body, and more often than not, without a single utterance or word being spoken. Its language has the ability to touch the heart of each person who encounters it; whether they be six or sixty.  Grace & Glory is carefully curated for those who have an appreciation and love for dance. However, at the very heart of the show lies the aim to inspire people from all walks of life to dance, even if they have not dreamed of doing it before. Tickets are priced at Rs. 1,000, Rs. 2,000, Rs. 2,500, Rs. 3,500 and Rs. 4, 500. Box plan is now available at the Bishop’s College Auditorium Office and on www.tickets.lk.

This production would not have been possible without our generous sponsors, Maliban Biscuits, DFCC Bank, John Keells Properties, Daily FT, Daily Mirror, Sunday Times, Hi TV, TV1, Legends and Yes FM.
