Odissi Dance recital by Indian danseuses Monday

Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo will be presenting Meghna Das, an Odissi exponent from India on 18 February at 6 p.m. at SVCC auditorium located at 16/2, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 07.

Meghna was introduced early into the field of l Indian Classicadance Odissi and gave her first public performance at the tender age of three at the Drama Centre at Singapore and moved the audience by her grace, confidence and charm. Meghna started formal training in Odissi at the age of five under her mother Smt. Sahana Das, a highly experienced Odissi dancer and choreographer. Later Meghna joined Nrityagram and trained rigorously under their able and generous guidance. Meghna was invited to join an Odissi dance ensemble Nrityantar led by the Guru Madhulita Mohapatra. As a part of Nrityantar, Meghna has performed in several highly acclaimed recitals in and out of Bangalore.

In February 2015, Meghna premiered her first directorial venture Anāmikā for which she received rave reviews. Her second production, Neelachal premiered in July 2017 in Bangalore. A graded Doordarshan artiste and recipient of the national Chinta-O-Chetana Baishaki Award for her accomplishments as a young dancer, Meghna has been critically acclaimed for her technical finesse and grace. Meghna has given solo, duet and group performances in India, Singapore and Thailand and has attracted enthusiastic appreciation from audiences. Her fluidity, grace and adherence to the purity of the Odissi dance style has made her stand out as a brilliant dancer today.
