Art in the Village brings Thunveni Yamaya to The Sooriya Village

Art in the Village is back for a fourth time this 5 November, from 7 p.m. onwards at The Sooriya Village, bringing Thunveni Yamaya (translation: Third Part of the Night), a 1983 black and white film directed by Kala Keerthi Dharmasiri Bandaranayake. 

Thunveni Yamaya is full of intrigue, drama and tragedy in equal parts. Dharmasiri Banadaranyake has presented this movie in his signature style of film, by trying to portray the nature of human mind and its complications. 

Dharmasiri Bandaranayake is a Sri Lankan film director and playwright. He was born on 6 October 1949 and has produced much thought and conversation provoking works such as Hansa Vilak (1983), Suddilage Kathaawa (1984) and Bawa Duka and Bawa Karma, following the themes of change within a society.

He has also produced stage dramas such as Eka Adhiapthi, Makarakshaya, Dawal Bheeshana, Yakshagamanaya and Trojan Kanthavo, which have all been themed around social and political issues. 

Thunveni Yamaya is about a mentally disturbed individual identified as Percy and his marriage to Princy and the chain of tragic events that their marriage sets off. A must watch for all local movie enthusiasts, welcome.
