Indian company donates heavy duty dewatering pumps

Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., one of the pioneering water pumps manufacturing company of India, handed over two state-of-the-art portable heavy duty dewatering pumps to Minister of National Disaster Anura Priyadarshana Yapa at the Ministry of Disaster Management.

The event was attended by Deputy High Commissioner of India Arindam Bagchi, Kirloskar Brothers representative Abhijit Deshpande and Ministry of Disaster Management Secretary S.S. Miyanawala. This donation is part of continued assistance by Indian companies in Sri Lanka following the recent floods in the country. It will help strengthen disaster preparedness in Sri Lanka. 

The cost of the two pumps is around Rs. 7 million and the pump has a water removal capacity of 50 litres/second. During an emergency, these pumps can be swiftly towed to a site for immediate use. These self-contained pumps don’t require any other external support such as electricity or mounting equipment.
