Celebrating the opening of the new kitchen at the International Hotel School (IHS) recently, students decided that the first items prepared must benefit the less fortunate. Owing to this contribution to society a charity event was organised. Students of the hotel school guided by their mentors were tasked with preparing 10 Avurudu Kevili items (sweet meats) for the 45 children of the Camelia School in Mattegoda. The Camelia School is an alma mater to orphans and disabled students most of whom are poverty stricken. Commenting on the charity visit the principal of IHS said, “Witnessing such joy and gleam on the faces of these children really created a powerful impact on our students.”
