  • Aims to promote the habit of reading amongst students

Crysbro, a leader in the poultry industry, initiated a series of programs centred on the ‘Sisu Diriya’ concept to encourage school children in 15 locations islandwide (within close proximity to Crysbro business centres) to sharpen their critical thinking ability and improve their knowledge base through extensive reading. Accordingly, Crysbro provided books to several school libraries and assisted a number of other identified schools to establish libraries, by providing books as well as bookshelves. The Company will take steps to identify further requirements of the same schools, and provide assistance through a special program.

Moreover, Crysbro organised an art exhibition to coincide with the International Literacy Day, to display and recognise works of art created by Crysbro employees’ children. The Company plans to use the prize-winning works of art to decorate the textbooks which Crysbro provides employees’ children at the beginning of new school terms annually.  Commenting on the overall scope of ‘Sisu Diriya’, Crysbro Human Resource and Administration Manager Ranjan Mahindasiri said: “As part of our CSR approach, we conduct projects that plays a role in shaping a society full of well-adjusted individuals. The ‘Sisu Diriya’ concept in particular works towards this aim by awarding scholarships to employees’ children, and providing financial assistance to children who excel academically. We also direct students to acquire vocational skills.”
