Time to play ‘hard ball’?

There is a strong correlation between a country’s economic success and its performance at sports. With the exception of a toss-enabled cricket gold medal, Sri Lanka has not won an Asian Games gold medal in the last 12 years. It may time to take stock of the ‘investments’ that Sri Lanka has made in sports in the last 25 years and critique the returns we have got by way of performance (not just in cricket). Are the low returns because of the quantum of the ‘investment’ or the way in which the ‘investment’ has been deployed? Time to play ‘hard ball’? Or do we keep passing the ball!?   [email protected]
