The way forward to bring peace and happiness to our planet is with meditation

Each passing day in 2020, it is news about nature’s fury. The situation is becoming worse each day for the citizens of Planet Earth. Of the four great elements, three of them are probably at the peak of their fury.

Since January this year 2020, here is a list of some of the actions of nature and manmade conflicts:

  • On 3 January, US killing of Iran’s Soleimani
  • 8 January, downing of Ukrainian Airlines plane
  • President Trump impeachment inquiry
  • Locust invasion in Eastern Africa
  • Coronavirus outbreak
  • Volcanic eruption in Philippines
  • Earthquake in Turkey
  • Australia’s deadly bushfires
  • Kashmir avalanche
  • Floods in Jakarta
  • Protests in Middle East
  • Surge of violence in Africa, in Burkina Faso, in Niger, in Cameroon and Western Chad, Northern Mozambique, etc.
  • President Trump’s Middle East plan
  • Earthquake in Jamaica
  • Spate of earthquakes in Iran, Puerto Rico, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Argentina, Mexico, Indonesia, China, USA, Solomon Islands, Cayman Islands, etc.
  • Tropical storm Blake

The four great elements

Among the list as above, on one hand there are the nature’s creations and on the other hand creations of species Homo sapiens. In all cases of natural disasters, it is one of the four great elements at work, Earth (Patavi), Water (Apo), Fire (Thejo) and Air (Wayo).

When scientists talk of elements, they do refer to those in the Periodic Table, and there are 118 in all. The important thing to know is that these 118 elements too have the characteristics of four great elements in differing proportions. All things are conditioned and so are the 118 elements.

The Buddha the Enlightened One said of all conditioned things: “Bhikkus there are these three characteristics in all conditioned things, arising is seen, Ceasing is see, and what is, there is change from this to that.” That means there is arising and ceasing with great rapidity, not visible to human eye.

The experiments conducted by the University of Berkeley Professor Donald Glaser and the research done by Dr. Masuru Emoto (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Moz82i89JAw) reveal a great deal about matter. In the case of Dr. Emoto his work on water under different conditions is most revealing. From a scientific perspective too it affirms the teachings of Buddha. (One simple way to know how the mind can impact is to take a look at the face of a yogi in meditation and a person who is extremely angry.)

The way the four great elements are behaving in the last few years and now is not just only due to the emission of greenhouse gases from fossil fuel burn. While the increasing accumulation of these gases can prevent the emission of heat from our atmosphere to outside resulting in global warming, the culprit for the present situation is not purely that, but mainly the hatred of human beings towards fellow human beings.

The recent actions by leaders in our world is causing an enormous increase in hatred among human beings towards the fellow humans. The random shootings, knifing and suicide bombings are manifestation of the hatred that humans have developed in themselves.

Prime Minister of Britain Boris Johnson is pledging to ban the sale of all new fossil-fuelled vehicles from 2035, and says Britain has a “responsibility to lead the way” in tackling the environmental crisis. Here again, this ignores the impact of human mind on matter, and this would now be creating great agony in British people’s minds causing some animosity. Here too the impact of mind on matter has not been taken to account.

Tectonic plates

The greatest fear now as I see is the impact that the tectonic plates can cause to planet earth. These tectonic plates have a very high percentage of earth element and other three are in far lesser percentages. The daily events taking place in our planet earth does not indicate that we are moving away from hatred creation to compassion and loving-kindness creation amongst humans.

If we the citizens of this planet do not decide to put a stop to the daily buildup of hatred towards fellow citizens, the next event could be reactions of the tectonic plates. Not only do we have a responsibility to make living better for present day global citizens but also to ensure that future generations will not have to put up with hatred anymore.

Bribery

The revelations about the bribery by Airbus Industries in order to secure aircraft orders is mainly from developing nations. As per the Approved Judgement dated 31 January of SFO vs. Airbus SE, the brief facts relating to the counts on the Indictment, the bribes paid to third parties in order to secure the purchase of aircraft, by civil airline companies are airlines in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Indonesia, and purchase of military transport aircraft by the Government of Ghana.

As per article, An Agenda for Transparency in EU dated 23 October 2019 (https://europeanlawblog.eu/2019/10/23/an-agenda-for-transparency-in-the-eu), it does not appear that the rules governing transparency were adequate and the authors of the article have stated: “Regrettably, the mission letter to Věra Jourova, Commission Vice-President-designate for ‘Values and Transparency’, provides no concrete actions to deliver on the commitments included in the strategic agenda to develop the potential of the EU as a modern, open legal system connected to its citizens. To help fill that lacuna, we propose a set of ideas and concepts to create a new agenda for transparency in the EU. This agenda should be realized within the new legislative cycle beginning with the new Commission coming to office in late 2019.”

The alleged bribery by Airbus had taken place during November/December 2013.

State of Union Address USA

It would also appear that the State of the Union Address by President Trump where he snubbed the Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and she omitted a ceremonial introduction and later ripping up his speech document, could well result in increase of hatred between the people of America.

The revitalisation of America as anyone with wisdom can see is increasing hatred emission to outer world. All these will also impact the four great elements. If the youth and children of USA were among the 37 million Americans who tuned on and saw how President Trump snub speaker Nancy Pelosi and she later ripping up his speech, what message did they get from these leaders?

Leadership as I note is about doing right things, whatever the situation may be. Even if there are differences, such things should not become public knowledge as that can cause chagrin to the people, resulting in build-up of more hatred.

Later Senate voted to acquit President Trump, 52-48 on charges of abuse of power and 53-47 on obstruction of congress.

The way forward to bring peace and happiness to our planet

The only way to do that is with meditation, mindfulness meditation and Vipassana meditation. No one needs to spend even one dollar but just a few minutes each day. Meditation has no religion, and is about observation of one’s own breath. Further in the observation of breath (function of the involuntary nervous system), one brings the running mind to heed the peace of the breath and be in the present moment. Only a few steps to build mindfulness, the surefooted path to global happiness.

We the citizens of this planet only can make this a better world for all to live, and the same cannot be done by weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or weapons of single destruction (WSD) that are being manufactured each day so that billions of poisonous snakes (money) can be made by the makers and the maker nations, which in turn will inject the poison of craving into those people.

These organisations, countries who make weapons and sell should learn from the discourse that Buddha gave the dance leader Thalapata. Buddha told the dance leader: “If with your actions of dancing and music, you and your dance group stir the dormant desires or the dormant anger of fellow humans and cause their desires and anger to surface, then on account of that you will be born in Hell.”
