This series is based on business leader Dhammika Perera’s recently revealed ‘Economic Growth Strategy and Action Plan to increase GDP Per Capita from $ 4,000 to $ 12,000’. The document outlines goals and action plans for 23 ministries and today’s column focuses on the Ministry of National Security

Action plan

Enhance national security.

Enforce zero tolerance policy against terrorism and extremism.

Appoint one authorised Head responsible for the intelligence operations of the tri-forces and the Police, for effective communication among all units.

Treat “intelligence” as a professional service and recruit the best talent on an attractive salary scale to this service.

Introduce a legal framework to protect intelligence officers from political interference.

Connect intelligence officers with foreign intelligence services and provide them local and foreign training along with modern technological equipment.

Reinforce coastal safety and border protection.

Implement an effective framework for the welfare and resettlement of soldiers.

Digitalise the police with biometric technologies.

Implement facial recognition technology through surveillance cameras to identify criminals and terrorists at any given place.
