Veteran technologist appointed Chairman of Ceylon Ceramic Corporation

Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa has appointed veteran ceramic technologist Jude Fernando as the new Chairman of Ceylon Ceramic Corporation. 

Fernando has previously served the multinational ceramic giant Noritake as a top executive for over 30 years. He holds a B.Sc., M.B.A. and M. Phil. Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

He has also served as a Director in CENTEC Limited (Ceramic Research & Development Centre), which is a joint venture private company between Sir Lanka Ceramic Council and Industrial Technology Institute for six years. He has supported to improve the Sri Lankan ceramic industry as a consultant for leading ceramic companies as well.

The main task assigned to him by Minister Weerawansa is to reopen the Ceylon Ceramic Corporation owned brick and tiles factories which were closed down for few decades. 

In addition, introduction of new products to the export market and proper value addition to Sri Lankan high quality raw materials. Furthermore production of local kaolin and ball clay to minimise imports of high value clays from different countries.

The final expectation is to replace the import ceramic products with Sri Lankan manufactured high quality products by improving Ceylon Ceramic Corporation owned manufacturing plants.
