NDB has proven yet again that it is one of Sri Lanka’s best employers. The bank was named the organisation with the ‘Healthiest Employees’ under the Large Organisations category at the AIA Healthiest Workplace Survey Awards 2019 (HWS) conducted by AIA Vitality.

The aim of HWS, which was conducted for the second consecutive year, is to understand how the workplace affects employees’ health and impacts their performance and engagement at work. The survey helps participating employers to invest smartly in the health and wellbeing of their staff by focusing on the needs of their employees.

Research and analysis for the Healthiest Workplace Survey by AIA Vitality was conducted by RAND Europe and NDB was felicitated with the two awards, ‘Healthiest Employees’ winner and ‘New Entrant’ winner.

Speaking of the two awards, NDB Bank’s Vice President Group Human Resources Lasantha Dasanayaka said: “NDB has understood the importance of health and wellbeing of its employees. The bank has always strived to identify specific areas which it can improve on and has addressed these concerns creating a healthier environment for our people, focusing on a more holistic approach towards employee wellbeing. The bank’s ultimate goal is to ensure total wellbeing of its staff.”

He added that this approach also improves the workplace productivity and reduce absenteeism. “The ‘New Entrant’ award on the other hand is a reflection of the continued commitment the organisation has towards this approach.”

A workplace is traditionally the place where many employees spend their days sitting before a computer screen, hardly thinking about fitness and health. While this may be true for many other places, NDB is a place where the employee’s physical wellbeing, financial wellbeing, as well as the mental wellbeing is given importance.

The NDB Fitness Gym serves as a stress buster as well as a place employees can go to for total physical fitness. Additionally, the NDB Staff Recreational Club also encourages their staff to be a part of various sports activities including, but not limited to athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, netball, football/rugby, chess and swimming, etc. The Club activities include spiritual wellbeing engagement activities too. These and some of the other employee benefits are designed to support the holistic approach towards employee wellbeing.

NDB Bank which is the fourth largest commercial bank in Sri Lanka with over 113 branches across the island has served millions of Sri Lankans through a host of financial services. From its inception, NDB Bank, along with the NDB Group has been a catalyst in the development of the nation, strengthening and empowering entrepreneurs, corporates and individuals from all strata of the economy.
