The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Frankfurt assisted the Export Development Board in organising the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the world´s leading trade fair for organic food and natural beauty, BIOFACH 2020, in Nuremberg, Germany from 12-15 February.

Fifteen Sri Lankan companies participated in this year’s fair in Nuremberg showcasing a wide range of products from organic virgin coconut oil to dehydrated fruits and Ceylon spices. The Sri Lanka pavilion was an effective forum to establish direct contacts, sign new contracts and have useful business ties with potential buyers. Consul General Madurika Joseph Weninger spoke to the representatives of all the companies present and discussed how best to increase clientele for each business establishment present and revealed that the trade division of the consulate would ensure that there would be a follow-up on their meetings.

More than 3,500 international exhibitors from 110 countries attended the Nuremberg organic food and organic cosmetic sectors along with the entire supply chain, offering the perfect opportunity to visit professionals, meet organic producers from organic markets and be inspired by the sector’s latest trends and innovations related to organic food.

The opening ceremony of BIOFACH 2020 was inaugurated by Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire Dr. Jane Goodall and German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Julia Klöckner. As part of the congress theme ‘Organic delivers’, the exhibition highlighted the positive effects of the organic sector while ‘All about water - is the basis of life endangered’ was also addressed as a highly topical issue.
