Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council welcomes new Maldives Ambassador

The Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently organised an evening of dinner and networking to welcome the new Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razak. 

The function took place at the Hilton Residences, Colombo.   Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure in Maldives Mohomed Aslam, other diplomats from the Embassy, high-level Businessmen and members of the Council participated in the function. Omar Abdul Razak presented his credentials to the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena on 1 February. 

Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council President Devinda Lorensuhewa welcomed the new Ambassador.

 “We warmly welcome His Excellency Omar Abdul Razak, Ambassador for Maldives in Sri Lanka and Madam Fathimath Zahir.  It is my duty to brief you about our Council. Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council was established in May 2007 as the 19th bilateral Business Council of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and since the then the Council has been operating and executing various projects and initiatives effectively for the betterment of the membership. So far we have organised six trade and investment promotion missions to Maldives and have participated at Hotel Asia Exhibitions and Maldives Construction Fairs,” he said.

Lorensuhewa added that most Sri Lankan delegates concluded successful trade contracts with Maldivian business entities. These delegates were also provided with opportunities to visit a number of Government institutions in Maldives to discuss issues faced by them. 

Furthermore, the Council is currently organising a trade delegation to Maldives to participate at the Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives 2019 Exhibition, to further develop their trade performance.
