Record price for Makandura Tea Factory’s Low Grown Pekoe 1 Grade

At last week’s tea auction held on 16 and 17 October, an invoice of Pekoe 1 Grade from Makandura Tea Factory, Mulatiyana, equaled the all-time Colombo Tea Auction record price of Rs. 1,010 per kg for PEKOE 1 grade in the Low Grown Category. This tea was purchased by Expo Teas Ceylon Ltd. and sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. 

This factory also secured the weekly top price of Rs. 2,200 for FFEXSP grade in the Premium Flowery catalogue and three other top-end prices for OPA, OP1 and FBOP1 respectively in the Low Grown Leafy and Tippy catalogues. 

Makandura Tea factory consistently produces some of the best Low Grown elevation teas and is now amongst the well-established marks on offer at the Colombo Tea Auctions. The factory is managed by Ayesh Sirithilake, a professional banker turned tea producer.
