Prof. Sarath Kodithuwakku re-elected IMSL President

At the 42nd AGM of the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) held virtually on Zoom on 23 March, Prof. Sarath Kodithuwakku was unanimously re-elected President.

He obtained his B.Sc in Agriculture in 1990, with specialisation in agricultural economics, from the University of Peradeniya. He obtained his MBA in Marketing in 1993, and PhD in Entrepreneurship in 1997, from the University of Stirling, UK. He currently serves as a senior professor as well as the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Business Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.

Prof. Sarath founded the MBA programme offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya, and has been the Coordinator of the programme since its inception in 1998 to 2011 and from 2017 to date, in addition to serving as the Chairman of the Board of Study in Business Administration, PGIA, since its inception in 2002 to 2011, and from February 2019 to date. 

He was also the Director of the Agribusiness Centre, the outreach arm of the Faculty of Agriculture, since its inception until September 2011. He is serving as a Member of the Board of Study of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and is heading IMSL since 2017.

The IMSL is the successor to the Sri Lanka Management Association, which was inaugurated in 1978 with the legendary Mallory E. Wijesinghe as President. The IMSL was inaugurated on 31st July 1986 and was incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 67 in 1988. Today, IMSL is a full member of the Asian Association of Management Organizations (AAMO), as Sri Lanka’s sole representative and National Management Organization in AAMO.

The eminent personalities who have given leadership to IMSL are: Mallory Wijesinghe, Mansoor Ghouse, Mahendra Amarasuriya, Rohini Nanayakkara, Colonel Faiz-ur-Rahman, T. Anver Dole, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Upul Perera and currently Prof. Sarath Kodithuwakku.
