The Positive Sri Lanka initiative is generating an overwhelming response from the local business community, as leading brands step forward to do their bit to restore the economy. Launched last week, more and more businesses are coming forward to pledge their support by way of discounts for shoppers, special deals, free publicity, and many other exciting promos to attract tourists to come shop, enjoy, and be entertained. All businesses are urged to step forward and be part of this unique collaboration, to support the country in time of need. Some of the leading brands that have come onboard this initiative in recent days are Spa Ceylon, Ministry of Crab, Vision Care, Elephant House, Unilever, Munchee, Sri Lankan Airlines, Hemas, and Kandy City Centre. The Positive Sri Lanka campaign was launched on 20 June at the Galle Face Hotel, in the presence of the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and other prominent business leaders, including CEOs, CFOs and CMOs of potential retailers, trade bodies, leisure sector, bankers, FMCGs, and MNCs.

The business objective of this not-for-profit campaign is to generate Rs. 90 billion worth of revenue inside the country over a short period of two months in a bold bid to jumpstart the economy once again, with proactive participation across the retail, consumer goods, sports and entertainment, leisure, travel & hospitality, education, health, culture & heritage, art, fashion and connectivity sectors. The campaign is officially endorsed by Sri Lanka Tourism and has been given the rights to use the So Sri Lanka Logo on all its communication.

Partners who have already pledged allegiance to the campaign are Retail Association of Sri Lanka, Bar & Restaurant Association, SLAITO, and CIMA as the main bodies bringing their retail locations and affiliates on board. Many media networks have also pledged support by way of free print space, airtime, and space on social media platforms and has also gone on to offer special advertising rates to all Positive Campaigns. Galle Face Hotel, Showtown, Roar, have been partners since the inception of the project, lending their services and expertise to organise, promote and execute a number of events very successfully.   Many social media influencers too are actively participating to popularise the campaign amongst their followers.

Some of the exciting events planned for the future are a Shopping & Food Festival with the partners, Fashion Show in Kandy at the Kandy City Centre and in Galle, and Road Shows all over the island. Positive Sri Lanka is creating an upbeat mood and inspiring consumers to go out and fuel the economy.

One objective of this campaign is to create a fund which will be managed through Trail Sri Lanka, a well-respected charity partner, to help the victims and their families through the long recovery process. Whilst Trail has come on board to help raise and manage the funds, the Red Cross has agreed to distribute the funds to the affected. This would be in the form of short-term donations for immediate medical needs or budget permitting, more planned long-term care for people with permanent consequences.
