PUM Netherlands Senior Experts assist value addition of local meat products for export

We need to work hard to increase the value of our exports in order to meet the demands of the export market and also to reach the target of doubling export income by 2020.

S.P.C. Kumarasinghe, who is the representative for PUM Netherlands Senior Experts in Sri Lanka, said that in line with the Government’s efforts to introduce new value-added projects to cater to the global market, PUM Netherlands Senior Experts provided a Senior Expert in meat processing to a livestock farm in Sri Lanka.

PUM Senior Expert Simon Muilwijk was here recently to advise Chut iDuwa Livestock Ltd, a local animal husbandry farm, and provide new technology for the meat processing unit of the farm. The expert was impressed with the management of the farm done in an environment friendly manner. The biogas unit of the farm converts all animal waste into biogas which is used as an energy source for farm activities. He said it is one of the best model farms he has seen in a developing country. This is not a surprise because this farm has obtained ISO 14000:2015 and ISO 22000:2005 as well as GMP and HACCP certificates for its meat processing plant. 

Muilwijk was able to develop a variety of new value added meat products from his recipes currently in demand in Western countries.
