The National Sales Average (NSA) for tea in the month of November 2019 totalled Rs. 569.67 vis-à-vis Rs. 525.53 of October 2019, showing a significant increase of Rs. 44.24 month on month. In comparison to November 2018 average of Rs. 584.58, however, shows a decrease of Rs. 14.91 YOY.
Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said when analysing the respective elevational averages for the month of November 2019 - High Growns totalling Rs. 540.81 for November 2019 have recorded the highest increase month on month of Rs. 63.22 vis-à-vis Rs. 477.59 of October 2019. However, when compared to November 2018 average of Rs. 547.64, a marginal decrease of Rs. 06.83 is recorded YOY. Mediums averaging Rs. 491.21 for November 2019 have also recorded a significant increase of Rs. 52.89 vis-à-vis Rs. 438.32 of October 2019. However, against November 2018 average of Rs. 516.22, shows a decrease of Rs. 25.01. Low Growns too totalling Rs. 599.00 for November 2019 have recorded an increase of Rs. 37.01 vis-à-vis Rs. 561.90 of October 2019. Meanwhile, it shows a decrease of Rs. 16.56 YOY when compared to Rs. 615.56 of November 2018.
Forbes said the January-November 2019 cumulative average of Rs. 542.34, showed a fairly significant decrease of Rs. 40.21 is recorded vis-à-vis Rs. 582.55 of January-November 2018.
High Growns for the period January-November 2019 of Rs. 506.40 have shown the highest decrease of Rs. 65.55 vis-à-vis Rs. 571.95 of January-November 2018. Mediums too averaging Rs. 467.51 have shown a significant decrease of Rs. 55.41 vis-à-vis Rs. 522.92 of January-November 2018. Meanwhile, Low Growns totalling Rs. 573.84 for January-November 2019 have shown the least deficit of Rs. 27.48 vis-à-vis Rs. 601.32 of January-November 2018.
Both, the month and cumulative averages, show a greater decrease in dollar terms compared to the corresponding period of 2018 due to the devaluation of the Sri Lankan Rupee YOY, Forbes and Walker Tea added.
