An internal study conducted by the Industrial Export and Investment Promotion Ministry has identified eight key recommendations to provide relief for exporters.

The study includes suggestions on how to overcome shortage of raw materials, custom clearance guidelines as well as identify and address issues affecting exports of food and beverages.

“The Export Development Board (EDB) and the Ministry has been actively involved in solving the problems faced by the exporters affected due to the countrywide curfew. The challenges faced by the exporters due to COVID-19 pandemic will be resolved soon,” Industrial Export and Investment Promotion Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

Following a meeting with the top officials of the Ministry, Ranatunga pointed out that he intends to present these proposals to Cabinet soon.

Minister also assured that he has taken steps to inform the Presidential Task Force on the challenges faced by exporters.

He said separate support services will be set up to assist the customers and monitor the performance of the companies.

With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, exports across the globe have been hampered and the export industry is faced with many difficulties. Exporters have difficulties in importing raw materials, delayed payments made by banks and order cancellations to name a few.
