Two of the most popular Japanese management techniques – KAIZEN and 5S – will be the focus of a full-day awareness seminar to be conducted by the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) on 27 September. The seminar will be conducted by the renowned expert on Japanese management techniques Sunil G. Wijesinha.

JASTECA has been in the forefront of promoting Japanese techniques in Sri Lanka, having been formed for the specific purpose of transfer of Japanese technology and Japanese style management.

JASTECA is an alumni association consisting of returned trainees of the Association for Overseas Technical Co-operation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) of Japan. It is one of 71 such alumni associations in 43 countries where AOTS operates.

JASTECA has pioneered the promotion of Japanese techniques such as Quality Circles, Kaizen, 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Hoshin Kanri, and Poka Yoke, and promoted the extraordinary customer service of Japan in Sri Lankan enterprises. JASTECA regularly receives the services of Japanese experts to conduct seminars in Sri Lanka, and sends groups at top management level and middle management level for training in Japan.

The awareness seminar on KAIZEN and 5S is a basic course which will take participants through the creation of a suitable environment for workplace improvement, implementing a Kaizen culture and a Kaizen suggestion framework, and then on understanding Advanced 5S, aimed at improving PQCDSM – Productivity, Quality, Cost Reduction, Timely Delivery, Enhanced Safety and higher worker Morale. The knowledge of simple 5S is widely known in Sri Lanka, but the advanced version which is more scientific and more result oriented, is relatively less known.

Sunil G. Wijesinha has been conducting seminars on 5S since 1994 and was the first to conduct public seminars on 5S. He has implemented 5S in many organisations he worked in, such as the Employees’ Trust Fund Board, Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC, Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka, and a large number of other organisations as a consultant.

He will therefore take the participants through all the challenges and obstacles he faced and suggest implementation strategies based on the Sri Lankan socio cultural milieu.

The seminar will also be beneficial for those who are applying for JASTECA’s ‘Taiki Akimoto 5S Award’.

For further details interested persons can contact the JASTECA office on 0112393566/ 0778582992 or email [email protected]. Since accommodation at the seminar is limited, early registration is advised.

JASTECA organizes the Taiki Akimoto 5S Award which will be given away in early 2020. Applications, which have already been called, will be closed on 2 October.
