  • Move in support of local economy’s fast recovery process

INSEE Cement said yesterday it was ramping up production at the Galle plant in a move to support the local economy’s fast recovery process.

In a statement, the company said that over the years, local cement manufacturers have contributed immensely in enriching the national economy through value additions that support the employment opportunities, up-skilling of local construction professionals through continuous training and education provided across all levels of stakeholders along with many dedicated social welfare activities that support the local communities. Additionally, the local production also supports currency stabilisation to help protect the economy. Although, initially the sudden onset of the COVID-19 pandemic situation and its subsequent lockdowns and curfew created a shortage in accessibility and delivery of cement, upon the lifting of these restrictions the efficient production and supply of products has now returned to normal.

The country’s local cement manufacturers have the capacity to cater 100% of the nation’s annual cement demand. However, in addressing the existing need to aid in the fast recovery of the country’s economy, INSEE Cement, the leading local cement manufacturer is in the process of ramping up its cement production in the newly built plant in Galle to its full capacity. This also provides a significant signal for investors.

INSEE Cement not only distributes 100% locally produced fresh cement but also provides a continuous supply of high-quality cement that surpasses the standards of quality of imported cement.

Well known for its consistency in producing high quality cement for a value adding price point, INSEE Cement also capable of customising their products based on project requirements, caters to many extensive infrastructure projects throughout the nation.

Commenting on the ramping up of the Galle Cement Plant production, INSEE Cement Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Innovation Jan Kunigk stated: “Our contribution to uplifting the nation’s economy is of immense value in rebuilding Sri Lanka during post-pandemic recovery. INSEE Cement’s ability to efficiently deliver full capacity of high quality cement needed by the Individual House Builders and Concrete Business Partners has always been ensured; except within the short timeframe in which the company, operated only with necessity, as required and allowed through the lockdown period - supporting the Government’s measures in safeguarding the health and safety of our employees and stakeholders at large.”

The high quality of INSEE Cement products is a value addition that is favoured by many Sri Lankans and it is estimated that nearly every second home in Sri Lanka is built with INSEE Sanstha while INSEE Mahaweli Marine Plus also continues to penetrate and sustain a strong market share in the retail and Concrete Products Manufacturing (CPM) segment. Drawing from a legacy for more than 30 years as the most preferred cement brands in Sri Lanka, INSEE Sanstha and INSEE Mahaweli Marine Plus currently dominate the local retail market as the most demanded and widely recognised cement brands in the country. This is further supported by the immense delivery benefit provided through INSEE’s 8000 dealer network, strategically located close to all local marketplaces, ensuring product availability island-wide.

Expanding the company’s reach across the island to provide maximum convenience to customers has always been a key priority for INSEE Cement in the delivery of the company’s customer value proposition. The strong relationships built with a vast network of channel partners – dealers, distributors, business partners, as well as influencers – masons, technical officers, architects, and engineers have all contributed to achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.

The time is now to aid Sri Lanka by supporting all local industries to resume the economic activities. Faced with a future that could further restrict financial conditions, buying local products such as INSEE Sanstha can help local manufacturers to provide steadfast support in protecting livelihoods, stabilising the currency fluctuation and giving the Sri Lankan economy the much-needed opportunity to fast track its recovery with high employment levels.

It is now that the strategic approach must be taken to bring the nation’s local producers to the forefront to ensure a faster rebound to the economy. Supporting local manufacturers helps support the nation we live in, which in turn helps to uplift our livelihoods, protect our future and ‘Build for Life’.

INSEE Cement offers its sincere appreciation to the current government on taking the proactive step of bringing its strategic vision to life by ensuring the sustainability of local manufacturers, which is of crucial importance and opens the opportunities for further investments in the near future. It would truly be a bright future for the nation that relies on value generation from within and not via importers. The local cement manufacturers count on the long-term upholding of this direction.
