In terms of this Act, the IDB is the premier state organisation entrusted with the responsibility of developing the industrial sector in the country, Sri Lanka.

Government of Sri Lanka through the IDB hopes to provide a stable and sustainable macroeconomic environment to accelerate the industrial development in the country. The Government is determined to develop ‘Internationally competitive, Export oriented Diversified Industrial Sector, characterised by a range of high technology and ‘Non-Polluting Industries’.’ The Board of Investment (BoI) offers a variety of incentives for the investment in divergent segment in the industry, as under the current industrial policy of the country, SMEs play a vital and predominant role in sustaining the economy of the State.
