Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce holds District Best Traders Association 2017

For the second time, the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce organised the ‘Hambantota District Best Traders Association 2016-2017’ to select winners from 18 trade associations. 



The award ceremony was held in parallel to the 24th Annual General Meeting of the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce on 1 October at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Convention Centre. 

Minister of Fisheries and State Minister of Mahaweli Development Mahinda Amaraweera participated as a Chef Guest. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Azmi Thassim and the Consular General of India Prem K. Nair participated as special guests.

HNB Assurance PLC National Training Manager Jehan Hanif delivered a speech to the business people in the Hambantota District encouraging them to change their attitudes and mindsets to achieve the maximum benefit from opportunities.

The 18 Trade and Sectoral Associations throughout the Hambantota district were all eligible to become winners in the competition. Their performance was considered in relation to evaluation, encouragement and acknowledgement in the below two areas: Providing the opportunity to enter into self-assessment of how to run an association; and Encouraging entrepreneurs on social duties and responsibilities.

The winners were selected by a nominated judge panel and were successful based on how they conducted their activities and the quality of their activities for the year 2016-2017. 

The winners were Best Trade association: Hambantota Trade Association; Best President: M.I. Hameed from Hambantota Trade Association; Best Secretary: W.A. Gamini from Weeraketiya Trade Association; and Best Treasurer: Ranjith Munasingha Hambantota Trade Association.  Trade Association Evaluation Awards were won by United Trade Association – Beliatta; Tangalle Trade Association and Tissamaharama Trade Association.
