Govt. sets new guaranteed prices for paddy

The Cabinet has approved new guaranteed prices for paddy for the current 2020/21 Maha season starting from the second week of January. 

The approved proposal by the Minister of Agriculture to implement the Paddy Purchase Program during the Maha season 2020/2021 is as follows:

•  To purchase standard Nadu at a price of Rs. 50 per kg of paddy with 14% moisture and Rs. 44 per kg of paddy with 14%-22% moisture.
•  To purchase standard Samba at a price of Rs. 52 per kg of paddy with 14% moisture and Rs. 46 per kg of paddy with 14% -22% moisture.
•  With regard to small and large scale irrigated farmers who receive fertiliser subsidy, to purchase paddy by the Paddy Marketing Board according to the extent of cultivated land by them. At least 1,000 kg from farmers who cultivate between one and 1.5 hectares and 1,500 kg from farmers who cultivate between 1.5 and two hectares. 

The Paddy Marketing Board has made arrangements to purchase paddy at guaranteed prices with the aim of minimising the unexpected fall in paddy prices.
