Govt. aims to boost all sectors to contribute to higher economic growth: Lansa

Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure State Minister Nimal Lansa said the Government is focused on all sectors that contribute to the country’s economic growth and developing infrastructure, whilst prioritising health regulations.

He made these remarks while inaugurating road development projects in the Puttalam District recently. Accordingly, the development of Palasolamukku Thoduwawa Road, Sengakattuwa Temple Main Road and Mudalappaliya internal roads in the Puttlam District were commenced.  The estimated cost for the project is Rs. 265 million and distance to be developed under this program is 11.6 km.

“We cannot stop development work because of the pandemic. We should continue with the economic development work and infrastructure development projects subject to all health regulations. The Health Ministry is currently discussing on importation of the COVID vaccine under the guidance of the World Health Organisation (WHO). 

“We won the 30-year-old war with the support and sacrifices of the people and we hope that the people will give their fullest support to the health and security forces in the fight against the invisible enemy COVID-19. All must unite so that we can control the spread of the virus to run the country as usual,” Lansa said.

He said the Ministry gave priority to road development as the country needs an advanced road network to boost the economic process to keep in line with the ‘Vision of Prosperity’ put forward by the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. 

“A total of 273 km of road development projects worth Rs. 45,000 million have been commenced in the Puttalam District. An estimate of another Rs. 20,000 million is being prepared. In another four years, the development of all roads in the Puttalam District will be completed,” the State Minister added.

Rural and Divisional Drinking Water Supply Projects Development State Minister Sanath Nishantha, Foreign Employment Promotion and Market Diversification State Minister Priyankara Jayaratne, Coconut, Kithul and Palmyrah Cultivation Promotion and Related Industrial Product Manufacturing and Export Diversification State Minister Arundika Fernando, MPs Chinthaka Mayadunna, Ali Sabri Raheem, former Provincial Councillors, local political leaders and officials of the Road Development Authority were also present on the occasion.
