A seminar on ‘Export Competitiveness and Poverty Alleviation in South Asia with special reference to Sri Lanka’ will be held by the Sri Lanka Economic Association on 17 May at 5 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Department of Economics, University of Colombo.

The seminar is based on the book of the same title written by Lloyd Yapa, formerly a Vice President of the SLEA, former Director of Export Development Board. The event is organised in collaboration with the Department of Economics, University of Colombo.

“This book could not have been published at a better time than this especially when the Government is engaged in a vigorous campaign to increase export competition with a policy commitment for high sustained growth,” SLEA spokesman said.

“In the contemporarily economic scene of Asia including Sri Lanka, increasing export incomes is a sine qua non for sustained high growth, and raising productivity and global competitiveness is exports is crucial for raising incomes from them,” he added.

Dr. W.A. Wijewardena, former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka, will make a presentation on the contents of the book and thereafter a discussion will follow.
