  • Hybrid event conducted virtually and awards presented personally

The ‘CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards 2020’ was held for the sixth consecutive year to recognise and honour Sri Lankan companies preparing high quality integrated reports. With the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic, this time the awards ceremony was held as a hybrid event combining both virtual and awards presented personally on 21 December.

Amidst hardships and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 28 companies applied for the competition this time consisting mainly public quoted companies, state and private commercial banks, finance and insurance companies, manufacturing, diversified, plantation, power and energy, education, SME and construction. 

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala Founder President CMA Sri Lanka and Chairman of the CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards 2020. 

The awards ceremony had the distinguished presence of eminent local and foreign dignitaries. The keynote address was delivered by John Stanhope, Deputy Chairman International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and Chancellor of the Deakin University Australia, the Special Guest of Honour was Viraj Dayaratne Chairman Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka who presented the awards to the winners. 

The Distinguished Professional Address was delivered by Prof. Mervyn King, Chair Emeritus of the IIRC, The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Former Judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa. Address by Chairman Panel of Judges was delivered by Prof. Ho Yew Kee, Professor in Accounting and Associate Provost (Skills Future) Singapore Institute of Technology and former Professor in Accounting – National Institute of Singapore (NUS). 

Address by the Supporting Partner Colombo Stock Exchange was delivered by the Director General Rajeeva Bandaranayake. Address by the President South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) Zia Ul Mustafa. The Judges Report was presented by Prof. Graham Terry Professor of Practice, University of Johannesburg and Ambassador for the IIRC.

Awards were given for the Ten Best Integrated Reports, the Overall Winner, Overall First and Second runner up, Sector winners, Special awards and Certificates of merit. 

The award winners were selected by a panel of judges chaired by Prof. Ho Yew Kee Associate Provost (skills and future development) Singapore Institute of Technology assisted by Prof. Graham Terry Integrated Reporting Ambassador and Professor in Practice from South Africa, A.N. Raman Past President SAFA (India), Prof. Samanthi Senarathne Senior Professor in Accounting University of Sri Jayawardenepura and Assoc. Prof. Luckmika Perera Centre for Integrated Reporting, Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business and Law, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.

Panel of judges were supported by an eminent panel of local Technical Evaluation team. 

The awards for the Ten Best Integrated Reports and the Overall Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards to the Overall winner, 2nd runner up and 3rd runner up, Sector Awards and Special Awards were presented in person by the Special Guest of Honour President’s Counsel Viraj Dayaratne Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka supported by Rajeev Bandaranaike Director General Colombo Stock Exchange, Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala President CMA Sri Lanka and Hennayaka Bandara Vice President CMA Sri Lanka.
