‘China – South and Southeast Asia Business Leaders Summit’ in Chengdu

‘China (Sichuan) – South & Southeast Asia Business Leaders Summit’ will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on 17-20 September. This summit is endorsed by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry and ASEAN – China Centre.

Under the theme ‘Promoting in-depth co-operation in economy, trade and investment between Sichuan and South and Southeast Asian Countries under the Belt and Road Initiative’, the summit includes a main conference and four parallel meetings, e.g. ‘China (Sichuan) – South and Southeast Asia Business Leaders Summit’, ‘Promotion Meeting on Economic Development Opportunities and Investment Environment of South and Southeast Asian Countries’, ‘Working Mechanism Round-table Meeting of Chambers of Commerce & Industry and Associations in South and Southeast Asian Countries’, ‘B2B Matchmaking Meeting for All Participants’ and ‘Site Visit of China (Sichuan) Pilot Free Trade Zone’. An estimated 180 overseas guests and 320 Chinese guests are expected participate.

Sichuan is south-western province and the most important meeting point between southwest, northwest and central China. It is considered the heartland of the Belt and Road Initiative. Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan, is the centre of economy, finance, technology, culture and transportation in Western China. The GDP of Sichuan Province breaks $ 595 billion in 2018, an 8% increase year-on-year, ranking number six overall in China and number one in Western China. It is the largest and most active provincial-level economy in Western China. Currently, Sichuan is taking characteristic advantage industries and strategic emerging industries in a major development direction, fostering 16 main industries such as integrated circuit and new display, new generation technology, big data, software and information service, aviation and gas turbine, intelligent equipment, rail transit, new energy and intelligent automobile, health and medicine, new material, energy conservation and environment protection, creating extensive opportunities and bright prospects for overseas investment and co-operation.

The summit is expanded from ‘South Asia – Sichuan Business Promotion Round-table Conference’ which has been held for nine years. It is aimed at establishing a platform and providing broad business opportunities for entrepreneurs from South and Southeast countries and regions, further promoting deep co-operation between each other.
