The Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE) held a workshop on ‘Entrepreneur Development’ in Jaffna on 28 September.

A team of senior businessmen, executives and professionals with extensive experience in management and business administration addressed the audience, which consisted of both established and budding entrepreneurs from the north of the country.

The speakers at this vital workshop cum seminar included COYLE Chairman Aminda Rodrigo, who delivered the welcome address, Facebook’s Fazlan Marikkar, who provided invaluable insight on using the social media network as a marketing tool and Blue Ocean Group Chairman Thumilan Sivarajah, speaking on behalf of ACCA, who delivered a presentation on financial management.

The thematic inspirational testimonial was related by COYLE member Ranil Willadarage, Chairman and CEO of Whiteglow Ltd, the holding company of leading fashion brand GFlock. The vote of thanks was delivered by Organising Committee Chairman Dan De Silva.

The workshop was aimed at providing a forum to educate participants on creative problem-solving processes to identify the challenges and needs of SMEs related to sustainable business practices. It also highlighted methods of arriving at innovative solutions, discovering niche markets, promoting innovation and improving competitiveness through a knowledge-transfer session.

The workshop was well received by the attendees who commented that the ideas shared, together with the wealth of examples, anecdotes and life experiences, were absolutely outstanding.

They affirmed that COYLE should have more programs of this nature which are highly beneficial to entrepreneur development in Sri Lanka.

COYLE realises the responsibility of introducing these seminars in Galle, Matara and Ratnapura in the near future with the end view of developing Sri Lanka’s economy. The chamber will frequently organise seminars, forums and roundtable discussions with businessmen to update them on fresh insights into management, leadership skills and sustainable development strategies at a regional and international level.
