Postal Department mobilised to aid essential services

The Postal Department will be mobilised to aid in a range of public services from tomorrow under a directive by Information and Mass Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

According to a press release by the Information Department, all post offices are to remain open for a few hours during curfew breaks to help the public obtain their services.

Further, the Postal Department has been instructed to assign postmen to deliver medicine packages which will be issued by clinics affiliated to public hospitals to patients who are currently undergoing treatment.

Each clinic has been instructed to package necessary medicines per prescription issued to patients who attended the clinic and send them to the provincial post masters to ensure smooth delivery.

The postal services has also been directed to make available all vehicles at their disposal to the respective district secretaries to be used to deliver essential items for the people in each region.

They are also to make available any post office which the secretaries deem necessary to store and deliver goods to the public.
