Confirmed COVID-19 cases rise to 180, 8 recoveries recorded

Eight recovered COVID-19 patients have been reported in the 24-hour period ending 10 a.m. today bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 42, however four new infected cases saw the number of total cases rise to 180.

The eight recoveries include four from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) and four from the Welikanda Base Hospital.

The latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit shows four new positive cases reported over the last 24 hours, bringing the total count to 180. Of these, 37 are from quarantine centres, 44 from the Colombo District, 31 from Puttalam, and 26 from Kalutara.

Sri Lanka currently has 132 active cases, with 95 at the NIID, 27 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, and 10 at the Welikanda Base Hospital. Another COVID-19 death was reported this morning, bringing the total count to six.

The number of suspected and hospitalised cases has reduced from 257 yesterday to 255 today, with 43 of them admitted at the Homagama Base Hospital. The Gampaha and Negombo District General Hospitals meanwhile have 24 suspected COVID-19 patients each, while the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital has 20.
