Active COVID-19 patients up 7 to 103

Seven new cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported today, increasing the number of active patients to 103, whilst Sri Lanka also recorded the first death.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 199 persons are currently in hospitals suspected of COVID-19.

To date Sri Lanka has recorded 113 COVID-19 cases, of which nine recovered and were discharged.

Earlier today, a 60-year-old man from Marawila was pronounced dead from COVID-19.

He had medical complications arising from a kidney transplant and suffered from diabetics, Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said in a statement.

Globally the number of deaths from COVID-19 rose to 28,794 with 622,450 persons infected.
