21 persons recover from COVID-19 in last 24 hours

The number of COVID-19 recoveries since 10 a.m. yesterday has been recorded at 21, bringing the total to 559.

Seven of the recoveries were from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), five each from the Navy Hospital and the Homagama Base Hospital, and four from the Colombo East Base Hospital.

According to the latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit, the number of active patients is 413. Of this, 202 are receiving treatment at the Navy Hospital, 99 at the NIID, 56 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 34 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 16 at the Homagama Base Hospital, five at the Iranawila Hospital, and one at the Kattankudy Base Hospital.

During the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today, 21 new COVID-19 patients were identified, 19 of whom were Navy personnel or their close contacts. All new patients were identified through active surveillance in the community and nine were asymptomatic.

Since 22 April, 576 Navy personnel and their close contacts have tested positive for COVID-19 and the total count of confirmed cases in the country has risen to 981. Of these, 540 are Navy personnel and 12 are from other forces.

A total of 68 persons among local communities at quarantine centres and 48 persons among overseas arrivals at quarantine centres have tested positive, as have 150 from the Colombo District, 36 from Gampaha, and 35 from Puttalam.

In addition to this, 149 suspect patients are under investigation at several hospitals, including 48 at the Navy Hospital, 19 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, and 18 at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, a total of 44,391 PCR tests have been conducted in the country so far, including 1,254 yesterday.
