20 more COVID-19 recoveries in last 24 hours

The total COVID-19 recoveries in the country have risen to 732, with 20 patients being discharged in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today. This includes 10 from the Navy Hospital, five from the Colombo East Base Hospital, two each from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) and the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, and one from the Welikanda Base Hospital.

The spate of recoveries come a day after 137 new cases were recorded, Sri Lanka’s highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day. Of those, 127 were overseas returnees and 10 were Navy personnel and their close contacts.

This has increased the number of active cases to 577, of which 115 are at the Homagama Base Hospital, 81 at the NIID, 78 at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, 72 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, and 46 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital.

The latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit states that a further 35 patients are at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 32 at the Iranawila Hospital, and 20 at the Navy Hospital. A total of 98 patients are in the process of being sent to a treatment centre.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 1,146 PCR tests were carried out yesterday and 57,327 have been carried out overall.

The total count of confirmed cases stands at 1,319, of which 674 are Navy personnel and their close contacts, and 309 are other local cases. The Epidemiology Unit considers the remaining 336 as imported cases with only three of them foreigners.

Of the 1,011 cases identified since 22 April, 674 are Navy personnel and their close contacts and 250 are returnees from overseas.

The distribution of cases show 638 Navy personnel, 288 overseas arrivals at quarantine centres, 150 from the Colombo District, and 68 among local communities at quarantine centres. In addition to this, 75 suspect patients are currently under investigation at several hospitals, including 12 at the Navy Hospital, eight at the Chilaw General Hospital, and seven each at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
