11 COVID-19 cases identified during last 24 hours

Eleven persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 992.

Ten of the new cases were Navy personnel and their close contacts and six were asymptomatic. Since 22 April, 586 persons in this group have tested positive.

Of the total confirmed cases, 550 were identified from the Sri Lanka Navy, 68 among local communities at quarantine centres, and 49 among overseas arrivals at quarantine centres.

The latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit shows that the number of persons identified from the Colombo, Gampaha, and Puttalam Districts remains unchanged at 150, 36, and 35 respectively.

The report adds that 414 persons continue to receive treatment at several hospitals, including 156 at the Navy Hospital, 95 at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 56 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 48 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, 39 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 14 at the Homagama Base Hospital, five at the Iranawila Hospital, and one at the Kattankudy Base Hospital.

Since 10 a.m. yesterday, six persons were discharged from the NIID, two from the Iranawila Hospital, and two from the Homagama Base Hospital having recovered from COVID-19. The total recoveries in the country has thus increased to 569.

In addition to this, 135 suspect patients, including 61 at the Navy Hospital, are currently under investigation.
