The curtains will rise on ‘Rhythm’s Going to Get You!’, the first concert presented by the Ladies’ College Old Girls’ Association (OGA), at 7:30 p.m. on 29 July at the Ladies’ College Hall. The old girls themselves will take the stage to deliver some fantastic performances.

The program for the evening includes performances by virtuoso musicians and the OGA Choir, as well as some skits and a sing-along session, which will undoubtedly get the audience clicking their fingers and tapping their toes. The concert is directed by the multi-talented Sureka Amerasinghe who has not only coordinated the choir, orchestra and ensembles, and arranged most of the musical items, but will also be performing on the night.

The proceeds of this event will be channeled towards the Smart Classroom Project – a milestone initiative to digitalise Ladies’ College and bring it on par with international and multi-disciplinary standards of education. Fundraising for this project is being spearheaded by the OGA, which hopes to raise sufficient funds to provide each classroom with a smart whiteboard and computer. Part of this evening’s proceeds will also be used to foster the holistic development of the school’s alumni through the advancement of arts, sports and educational activities.

The concert is a forerunner to the 4th Asia Pacific Choir Games organised by INTERKULTUR to be held in Colombo in October 2017, in which the OGA Choir will participate. Choirs from around the globe will perform and compete around the city, turning it into a hub of choral music. The chance to compete in such an arena is rare and exciting, and the OGA Choir has been dedicating a significant amount of time towards practices, with each member juggling family and work commitments and other responsibilities. Their commitment to their school and to each other is admirable. The OGA hopes to see a full house in the audience for the concert – tickets are available from the OGA Secretariat, located near the Ladies’ College swimming pool, open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday.
