Parliamentary staff to be felicitated today

Parliament has made necessary arrangements to organise a colorful felicitation ceremony on 24 July at the Grand Ballroom of Waters Edge, Battaramulla from 2.00 p.m. onwards to honour the members of the staff of the Secretary General of Parliament who have rendered commendable service to the parliament for more than two and a half decades. 

This function will be the third such event and has been organised under the guidance of Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya.

The staff of the Parliament is unique in many aspects. Their professionalism, skills in legislative matters and trilingual ability has been highly commended by both local and international parliamentarians. In view of that, it is believed that recognising their professionalism and skills will motivate them to perform their duties at a higher level as well as serving as a gesture of gratitude in appreciation of their long service.

Seventeen staff members who have completed over 35 years of service, 48 retired staff members and 219 staff members who have completed 25 years of service as well as eight staff members who have excelled in sports at the national level, bringing glory to the Parliament, will be felicitated.

Jayasuriya will be the Chief Guest at the ceremony while Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thilanga Sumathipala and the Deputy Chairman of Committees of Parliament Selvam Adaikkalanathan will attend as distinguished guests.
