BOI chairman claims Rs. 100 m compensation from Azath S. Salley

Board of Investments Chairman Upul Jayasuriya has filed a defamation case against National Unity Alliance Leader Azath S. Salley, citing several statements made by the latter at a media briefing. 

Accusing Salley of making false, concocted and baseless allegations against him, at a briefing in July last year, Jayasuriya claims the statements had a direct and implied intent and consequence of defiling and damaging his reputation and standing He also claims that the allegations made by Salley are more damaging to him as the present Chairman of the BOI. 

Claiming that Salley’s allegations at the said media briefing are defamatory by innuendo or implication and are tainted with malice and are wrongful and unlawful, Jayasuriya claimed the damage caused by the defamatory statements or insinuations to be Rs. 100,000,000.
